During this stage the fetus is not only capable of movement but also has a bit of cognition because the brain and spinal cord have already developed to some extent at the stage. This is a very crucial time in pregnancy because it is during this time that the amniotic fluid surrounding your baby begins forming.
A fetus at 12 weeks has a heart beat that can be recognized from outside. Though the heart of the fetus is formed around the sixth week, taste and destination that the heart beat can be properly recognized. It would be pertinent to mention here that the embryo is not usually described as an “embryo” but a fetus because at this stage it is believed that the baby has a full formed life.
This is a very crucial state in pregnancy because at this stage the doctor would conduct a couple of tests to find out if your baby is going to have Down syndrome. A couple of other tests could also confirm if the baby is carrying any genetic disorders.
